It’s hard to believe that the village I grew up in is now one of the country’s top foodie destinations. Don’t get me wrong, the local produce has always been outstanding – from the free range meat we used to eat on the farm where I spent my childhood to the amazing seafood from Morecambe Bay (the delicious brown shrimps harvested in nearby Flookburgh are a particular favourite). But to have a Cartmel restaurant voted the best in the UK is amazing.
