Cartmel Racecourse Cottage

We stayed for four nights and were all sorry to leave

A 5* review from guests who stayed in February

It’s great to know that all the hard work and thought we put into our cottage has paid off.

“This lovely cottage has been recently refurbished to a very high standard throughout. It is warm and cosy – although deceptively spacious, with plenty of room for 4 adults and two teenage boys. We stayed for 4 nights and were all sorry to leave. The interior was spotless and there was an excellent array of tea and coffee, also bread; butter; lovely fresh eggs from the owner’s farm; a bottle of wine and some lager to welcome us. The dining area is brilliant, with a round table – great for meals and board games. The kitchen is very well equipped and large enough for several people to do things at the same time. Sitting area is comfortable with a smart TV (also one in each bedroom – the boys were very impressed!) All the beds are extremely comfy and the showers in the ensuites are brilliant. There were plenty of good quality towels for everyone. Bathrooms have hand wash and spare toilet rolls and there was washing up liquid and cleaning materials in the kitchen. The wood burning stove had a good supply of logs and the owner brought kindling when we asked in a matter of minutes – although we were warm enough without needing to light it! Cartmel is an interesting village to explore and you can walk around the racecourse. The Priory was having some restoration work done but the rest of the building is open to visitors. Quaint shops – liked the cheese shop, the Sticky Toffee Pudding Shop and the small brewery, selling bottled beers and conducting tours – and free samples. Two reasonably priced pubs in the village are The Kings Arms and The Royal Oak, both with excellent food. There are 10% off cards for The Kings Arms at the brewery. This is a good base from which to explore the South Lakes and Grange over Sands coastal area. We enjoyed a cruise on Lake Windermere and The Motor Museum especially. We certainly hope to return sometime in the not too distant future.”
